As part of its recently announced 11g R2 release of Oracle Identity and Access Management, Oracle also released a new component called Oracle Access Management Mobile and Social. This solution significantly enhances the scope of the current OAM (Oracle Access Manager) platform, adding support for mobile devices and for logins based on social networks (social logins). With this new component, Oracle addresses some of the major challenges organizations are facing today, caused by what KuppingerCole names the Computing Troika 1 – the impact of the shift to Cloud Computing, Mobile Computing, and Social
Computing. The consequence of this is that organizations have to provide controlled access to users which are using a myriad of different and mostly mobile devices. These users, part of the “Identity Explosion,”2 are business partners, customers, leads, and other groups. Many of these users request that login be based on existing social network accounts, like Facebook or LinkedIn. Organizations thus need to find ways to integrate support for mobile devices and for social logins into their Identity and Access Management strategy and implementations. That is where the Oracle Mobile and Social Service comes into play.
IT is a well-thought and comprehensive approach for solving these issues in tight integration with an existing access management approach, embracing and extending this.
